How do you describe a perfect day? Well, a few depictions might be: spending time with nice and adventurous people. Sunshine and an occasional breeze. Spectacular scenery. Viewing numerous jagged mountains and lakes in shades varying from glacier blue to jade green. Challenging yourself. And climbing to the top of a mountain. That was my day on Saturday. I was lucky enough to join a Mazama climb of the South Sister led by Lori Freeman; Daniel Van Rossen assisting. The weather could not have been better. Our group meshed very well and conversations flowed. South Sister is one of the more beautiful mountains that I have climbed. It is located in eastern Oregon, just south of the North and Middle Sisters and is part of the Cascade range. Elevation is 10,363 feet. We climbed 12 miles r.t. with approximately 5000 feet of elevation gain. Start time was 5:20 am, summited at 11:45 am and returned at 5:20 pm. We took many breaks as we had a group of 12 plus a couple shawdows (don't ask). I feel so fortunate to have stepped foot on this most majestic mountain. Of course, we ended with the celebratory dinner. The group chose Cascade Lakes Brewpub; great food. All in all, not a bad day!!!
