A perfect day on Baldy (Mt. Baldy is 10, 064'). Crystal blue sky with low lying clouds below us all day. There was an occasional light wind on the summit. The highlight was the company; 12 of us in all with nine making the summit. The majority of us took the Ski Hut trail; 8.4 miles round trip with 3900' elevation gain. The route is strenuous and very scenic. The snow conditions were good although there were a few icy spots where the snow was quite hard. We carried crampons and ice-axes but most of us did not use them (came close). A few members of the group went directly up the bowl and crampons/ice-axes were necessary. They met back up with us and we were on the summit together. We left Manker Flats (trail head) at 7:25 am and arrived back down by 3:00 pm. A well deserved early dinner was enjoyed by all at the local bar/lodge. An absolutely phenomenal day!
