Lake Billy Chinook - September 6, 2008 : I was scheduled to climb Mt. Adams the weekend of Sept 6th/7th but due to lack of snow, the trip was postponed until next spring. Dave and I decided to do a last minute jet ski camping trip to Lake Billy Chinook in eastern Oregon. Three rivers converge into this majestic lake surrounded by steep canyon walls: the Deschutes, Three Crooked River and the Metolius. The lake has many fingers to explore and the canyon walls keep the lake protected from the wind. The water was glass like and the scenery was spectacular! We like to go after Labor Day as kids are back in school and there are very few boats on the lake but the water is still warm. We camp at Perry South which is located at the very south end of the lake. It is the only forested campground on Billy Chinook and the sites are quite private. The predominant fir found in the campground is the Lodge Pole pine. It was another great trip!!!

Canoeing Salmon Creek - June 13, 2008 : Canoed solo down 4.5 miles of Salmon Creek (class II+ rapids, portaged through 3 huge beaver dams & several large downed trees). No photos of class II as hard to take while paddling. Our house overlooks a section of this stretch of the creek and I have always wanted to canoe it. There is a short window where canoeing/kayaking is optimal. Very few people run the creek. Had a blast! Decided to run the continual 4 miles to Lake River on Sunday on the 15th. This section was a nice scenic cruise (lots of small canals to explore; total trip 5-6 miles). Lake River is a canal where we boat and jet ski that goes from Vancouver Lake to the Columbia River.
